Founded by Coach Nina Newby in November, 2005, Women n Sync was inspired by New York City's Men n Sync, the all-male synchronized skating team. Both teams are sponsored by the Skating Club of New York. Women n Sync skaters range in age from twenty-something to fifty-something, with careers in law, business, architecture, graphic design, fashion, theater, and music. Some have been skating and competing their entire lives; some have skated seriously for only a few years. All enjoy the camaraderie of friendly competition and the thrill of performing before an audience.
Their first competition, in the Open Adult category took place in February, 2006 at the Lee Ann Miele Classic. In April 2006, Coach Nina featured her Women n Sync team at the Yonkers Spring Skating show. The 2006-2007 skating season has proved to be a successful one for the team. Women n Sync competed in the Terry Connors Synchronized Skating competition on December 3, 2006 and had a first place victory. Later in the month the team exhibited in the Holiday on Ice show at Chelsea Piers Sky Rink. On January 6, the team won the silver at the Synchronized Skating Classic in Lake Placid New York in January 2007. Next stop: Easterns in Providence, RI! Several more exhibitions are also planned for spring 2007.
